This microwave is not even three years old, rarely used - it's in our second home - and shut down when our son opened the door during the popcorn program was running. Display went dark and it's completly dead. Bosch service still wasn't here and we are about to switch brands. I agree with all the poor quality reviews posted - there actually should be a way for a "zero" star rating.

This is a good product. Different than most microwaves since the door opens down (similar to an oven). It has a great look as well because it looks just like an oven. Only flaw is defrost options. I wish I could just defrost by selecting a time and or weight but instead I have to choose chicken, beef, etc. Sometimes I'm defrosting items that don't match up with the options.

I purchased this built-in Microwave oven almost three years ago. The microwave kept having problems and did not turn on at all. The first three times it was the fuse. This latest time it was not the fuse but something else which tripped my breaker each time I tried to plug in. I am afraid to call for repair since I don't know how much it would cost me this time. The first repair was paid for because it was still under warranty. But the two subsequent repairs costed me $500. Customer service help line also takes a long time to get through.

I love almost everything about my new Microwave. The only down side is that it does not have a swing right door to match my new oven and it is so deep that it is difficult to reach the back to clean. Love all the other features.

I have first microwave worked for only few months and broken. Service provide took 6 months to repair it as parts are not available to repair (Service provide deny to replace it as it is reairable) and it broke in 1 month after repair. warranty is ended when second time broke. I end up buying another same model as my cabinets are designed for this microwave. Second one worked only 6 months and broken. I have opened service request to repair it today.

Have to say Bosch designed a very goid and easy use Microwave oven, not only the outfit looks very modern and elegant but also the control panel is easy to understand and use.
My old microwave oven was from Ikea which looks very modern, but dead after 11years use, was planning to have technician fix it but Covid 19 to cause there is so difficult to have people scheduled for onsite repair. And more worry is not sure how long will it last after repair (have changed fuse, small parts). So the repair charge will up to at least 500.
Then decide to have new one to replace. Was little worry if the outfit can be fit perfectly but was wrong.
The only thing bother me is the control panel prefare it can be a Knob instead all by touch panel.

I bought this microwave /wall oven combo for my kitchen remodel in April 2019 and the microwave started arching less than 2 years later. Luckily I bought the extended warranty as it was determined by the Bosch certified technician that it was a design flaw in the magnatron area where the item touches the side wall of its housing, causing the arching. I would like to try another Bosch microwave to replace the non-working microwave but the only microwave that will fit in this flush wall mount is another one of this same microwave HMB50152UC/05. I'm stuck! Bosch, can you tell me if the design flaw in this series has been fixed or should I just buy a whole new microwave and oven wall unit?

We bought the 800 series microwave as part of a kitchen remodel. It looks very similar to this one. It looks great and worked okay for a couple of years, but it is not a good design.
The door hinges have broken and will cost upwards of $200 to repair. The drop-down door also makes it extremely difficult to clean the interior.
The lights on the control panel went dim, so dim they're barely readable...and the setting to increase the light intensity does not work (it always reverts to the dim setting.) A repairman says the control panel is out of production and unavailable and apparently irreparable.
Now the interior light has burned out.
Overall, very unsatisfactory.

Bought the microwave in 2019 and it worked OK for 2 1/2 years. It looked nice even if it had some faults, like slow cooking times (even when compared to sub-$100 countertop microwaves) and a faulty display. As of last week, it trips the circuit breaker whenever it's plugged in. (Nothing else that I plug into the same outlet causes any problems.) It's going to cost hundreds of dollars in repairs, so it's a total loss. What a disappointment.

This microwave has been an enormous hassle. Within three months, the magnetron and wave guide blew up and it was months before it could be fixed because there were no parts available. So for most of our warranty time, the microwave did not work.
Just recently, using the microwave would make our lights flicker and would periodically just quit working. Also, the clock display is too dim to read.
Such a horrible product. Only 18 months old. Do not buy this.

While this microwave works well with respected touch pad selections, I feel there is a serious design flaw with the fort opening down. Difficult to reach over door to place in or take out food from the microwave. Particularly a problem when placed over a matching wall oven. Another design flaw is the eco LED light mode. Very difficult to see the panel lights, and at certain angles they disappear altogether. This could be solved by brig able to turn off the eco mod. Unfortunately you cannot!

We purchased a new home that came with all Bosch appliances. I dislike all of them, but this microwave has been the worst. It started sparking 3 months ago (the unit just over 2 years old). Bosch Customer Service is a joke. No one will take ownership and we keep getting passed around from cusomer service agent to customer service agent. Do not waste your money on this microwave!

I needed a specific size microwave oven and this was the only one that fit. I have two complaints: 1) the sound of the timer is too soft to hear and 2) the wattage is under 1000 and many of the foods I want to heat or cook require or request you use a microwave with over 1000 w. Some go as far as to say in their instructions "Do not cook in a microwave under 1000 w. Well, I just cook it longer and hope for the best. Otherwise it works just fine and the Bosch Customer Service was marvelous.

We don't do much cooking in our microwave and use it primarily for reheating. Definitely have to put items in for more time and at a higher power to achieve desired results. The display is very dim when not being used. You cannot even see the clock unless you are standing directly in front of it. I had read this before I bought the microwave, but it is disappointing nevertheless.

Bought all Bosch appliances with our new build last summer for the quality. The microwave functions fine, but I have 2 big complaints.
1) The door should have a side hinge option - it's too hard to get foods in and out above the stove witht he door opening the way it does. It really is a safety issue.
2) The dimming issue drives me nuts. Doesn't matter if you set it to bright, it dims within 30 minutes later. Have had the control panel replaced - made no difference. Was told it's supposed to go to sleep and then wake up when you open the door or press a button - wrong - that doesn't work. The above issues are even more of a problem for my elderly mother-in-law who lives with us. Would not have bought this model had I known what I know now.

I live in an apartment so I obviously don't get to choose my appliances, but this product was installed in place of a separate microwave and oven. I was nervous at first, but I don't really cook/bake much so this is fine for what I need.
Here's why I'm writing this review: When I switch from using the rack vs the plate, it shouldn't be a two-handed job to remove the rack and find where to set it. It's just four hooks holding the rack so I have to bend down and lift the whole rack before pulling it out. This could've EASILY been made simpler by just doing a tiny suspension rail along the sides so I could slide out the rack - like how you move the racks in every other oven...
It sounds like such a small thing to complain about, but when you have to do it constantly because it's my microwave and my oven, it becomes quite irritating.

After a lifetime of owning countertop microwaves and using others' vent hood microwaves, THIS is nice. It is more like a legit appliance rather than a countertop appliance like a toaster or toaster oven. It seems very solid.
I love that it exhausts cooking steam during cooking and for a bit of time after it stops. At first I thought the fan sound was the microwave still cooking, since the bell signaling the end of cooking is very, very quiet, but it is removing steam from the interior of the appliance...no more steamy microwave.
One important thing to consider...the door opens like an oven, hinging at the bottom, so think that through if you are mounting it above a built in oven like I did. It's a bit high and I'm a bit short so I have to stand to the side of the open door to put dishes in or take them out...I can't reach over the door and into the microwave from in front of it. It's a bit awkward.
Overall I love it and the first time my SIL used it he said "That microwave isn't joking around!" He's right. It's dead serious.

Had the same dimming issue mentioned in other posts, but lived with it as it wasn't worth the cost to fix. Had the same light failure mentioned in other posts, but lived with it (ordered replacement bulb, but didn't install yet). Worst of all, it was shorting out/arcing (?) on the back wall and has been cutting a line through the back wall. I don't use it as much as our young kids so just happy it didn't burn our house down (had bought all Bosch applicances for new house build in late 2015). And, ironically the back wall of the microwave seems to be the only part you can't order through service parts. I'm pretty sure my first and only mircrowave was about $100 and lasted over 15 years (and was still going). This $1300 unit didn't last much more than 6 years. Unimpressed.

We brought Bosch Oven+Microwave combi 2years ago. The microwave has stopped working. A month ago, the fuse failed and I have paid $260 for the Bosch technical to fix it. In 3 weeks now sensor cooking stopped working. Bosch service charging again $200+ within 3 weeks of the last job. Also, the service center guys were rude.
Recommend not to buy.

Just had this installed in new kitchen only to find out that the panel display is considerably more dim than practical to see and more dim than other Bosch appliances installed beneath. To my surprise when I went online to verify I was changing the settings correctly I found that this is a fairly common issue and that a control panel will need to be replaced. That would have been good to know before we bought it. Certainly would have preferred that Bosch just sell the unit with a functioning control panel. Don't waste your money.

I hate this microwave. Brand new house, very expensive product. Hated from beginning. Motor broke in less than 2 years. No help from customer service at Bosch. They did not even know who their repair people were. Zero help. Spent $450+ replacing motor. It still arcs almost every time you use it, so worthless and scary to use. I will never buy another Bosch, ever.
And the clock thing is SUPER annoying to boot. How dumb is that?

As I wrote in an earlier review. My2-year old Bosch 500 series Microwave had to have $600 in repairs because the microwave part shorted out. Also the"Start/Enter" and "Cancel/Off" labels have completely worn off --- no caustic cleaners, no abrasive scrubbers used. They just faded away. And Bosch said there were no replacements. So I have two blank buttons. Another thing that could be better is the microwave door opens downward. As it sits above the paired Bosch oven, only a tall person can reach all the way to the back of the microwave. A door that opens to the side would be nicer. I have to stand on a step stool to clean the inside. I do like the Sensor Reheat and Beverage options on the panel.

I bought this microwave in 2018. Two years later the mechanism inside the door broke causing the circuit breaker to trip. I spent over $100 on replacing the part because the warranty was only for one year and one week after the warranty on the part expired, it broke again. Now I have a microwave that's only three years old and has to go to the dump. I like my Bosch dishwasher but would never buy any other Bosch appliances!

This unit is disappointing given the price for the following reasons:
1. The display panel is almost invisible even at the brightest setting. When contacted support, we were told that it was designed so to conseve power.
2. There are a lot of spots in the heating compartment where microwave coverage is not there. Food does not heat evenly through out the compartment, inspite of the turntable.
3. Worst problem of all for this built in model is that the door opens down and comes between the user and the oven. It is hard to reach inside the oven to place dishes or for cleaning. The problem could have been easily avoided if the door swung open to either left or right (or reversible).
