We recently installed the new GE Profile™ 30" Downdraft Electric Cooktop (PP9830SRSS) and could not be happier with it. The sleek stainless design instantly modernized our kitchen, and the built-in downdraft system works amazingly well ™" no bulky overhead hood needed.
The cooktop heats quickly and evenly, making everything from boiling water to cooking full meals fast and easy. The controls are simple to use, the burners provide excellent cooking flexibility, and cleanup is unbelievably easy thanks to the smooth glass surface.
One of the biggest surprises is how quiet and effective the downdraft vent is. It pulls smoke, steam, and cooking odors away far better than we expected.
Overall, this cooktop combines beautiful design, outstanding performance, and premium quality. We are extremely impressed with GE Profile and would absolutely recommend the PP9830SRSS to anyone looking for a high-end, modern cooktop upgrade.

Poor Quality Right Out of the Box

Sad that GE cannot provide a quality product. The screws to secure the vent to the fan were the wrong size, by two intervals. Also, the screws to secure the optional brackets to the cabinet which prevents the unit from moving, is in itself a sad story. All four screws which come preinstalled could not be backed out because the factory screwed them in beyond the threads. Two service technicians at two separate onsite calls could not back them out. GE blames the issue on me saying I screwed them in too far. Really, how dumb do they think I am, 1 screw maybe, two screws turned in too far, not really as I think I would have learned on the 1st screw. But all 4 screws...turned in too far...not at all. You would think GE would stand behind their product instead of blaming me....so sad to see GE Profile product moving down to the level of a Frigidaire.

I have contacted GE consumer relations to purchase a GE Cooktop Model No: PP9830DRBB. I was quoted a price of $2047 which includes tax, delivery, installation and removal of old unit. Later I was told that they do not have this in store, they referred me to another GE store which quoted a price of $2078 without tax and installation. The new price quoted was $2230.10 which does not include installation, they do not have anyone to install, you get it installed through a local person. The whole process was ridiculous and I am extremely frusted with GE Customer service. I have spent a lot of time talking to customer relations and I will never recommend contacting GE customer service.

DO NOT BUY THIS COOKTOP! The knobs and posts for the knobs are made of plastic. They MELT and break, given the proximity to the burners. They can only be replaced by lifting the entire unit out, increasing the cost of a visit for repair (not to mention the long wait for the parts themselves). This happened twice to our fan knob. The third time, we just closed off the fan and stopped using it. It™™s a horrible design flaw and we™™re told one that™™s well known to the GE technicians. Further, having looked into replacing the whole thing, we were told that GE has failed to address it in the newer versions. And recently™¦ the pilot light on one of the burners blew. We™™ve had this inferior product for four years and wish we™™d never bought it.

I love the chrome controls and they are very easy to use. This is my second one because the first one cracked after 12 years, but I upgraded this one with the chrome and it is so pretty. Easy to use and heats fast.

I love that you can select burner size and different power choices. The knobs are handsome and there is a lock control so the kids can™™t turn it on accidentally . The cooktop fan has three settings and is fairly quiet on high setting. This stovetop It replaced a 30 year old Kenmore coil which was very durable until a few of the elements stopped working correctly . The glass top will take some getting used to because I used a cast iron pan and I read it could scratch the surface. It was installed by professionals in about 30 min and match the old footprint exactly.

Replaced our very old crappy Jenn Air with this. Works great, looks great. Low profile is a bonus and down draft vent fit our old system just fine.
Must be cleaned according to direction or it will definitely scratch. Also didn™™t know that certain kinds of pans can™™t be used such as cast iron so do your homework before purchasing.

Sleek design. Heats up fast. One of the few options out there for a 30-inch downdraft cooktop. I bought some Burner Buddy covers (not a direct competitor) so the cooktop won't get scratched or damaged. I believe this is the single most common complaint regarding this cooktop. I cook all the time and I am a heavy user. For the most part everything went smooth, however the installation was a bit of a pain in the neck for the guy we paid to install it. The nuts on the exhaust fan assembly were too small to fit on the 4 bolts of the exhaust fan. The bolts on the exhaust fan could not be removed since they were welded on. The poor guy had to take the entire exhaust fan to Lowes to find the right size nut to fit on those 4 bolts! This indicates poor quality control and makes me cautiously optimistic that this cooktop will last. Details matter!

I™™m really disappointed with the quality of the glass on the cooktop. We have only cooked on it twice and we already have unremovable stain marks on it. I do not understand how a product can go bad that fast. There were only 3 options with a downdraft and all of our other appliances are GE, so we decided to purchase the GE electric stovetop but are very disappointed.

I love the completely unobstructed surface, which allows me to use even my largest cookware. The only cooktop had bezels and the larger pieces couldn't lay flat on the heating element. Also, cleans up easily with soapy water followed by a microfiber cloth to eliminate all streaking.

I am not sure how many stars I should give yet. For now, my biggest concern was about the installation. I measured the space before ordering (30) and didn™™t realized it should be ~28ish. Had extra work done to accommodate because I didn™™t want to simply return the unit. Wish there was some sort of warning about installation before purchasing.

It is a beautiful range top, but NONE OF THE BURNERS WORK AT ALL. They do not even get warm.
The red light is on and the down-draft fan works, but that is all.
If you can send me one that works, I will rate it a 5 STAR.

1) there is only a "hot" light for left and right - does not tell me which of the two burners on left (or right) is the hot one
2) a simple boil-over - even just water - takes alot of scrubbing and scraping to make cooktop shiny and smooth again

Redid my entire kitchen with GE Profile appliances. Replaced my 13 year old GE Profile cooktop (which looked new the entire time) with a black PP9830SRSS GE Profile cooktop. The new one has been impossible to clean leaving marks and streaks all over it. It takes longer to clean than it does to cook. Either the finish was faulty or it is simply a flawed product. So very disappointing. There is no way a cooktop should not come squeaky clean after each use if it is taken care of.
